Would you look at this beauty! I happened to stumble upon this gorgeous dollhouse while scrolling through Facebook Marketplace one evening and I remember my mouth hanging wide open in awe. I've seen a lot of dollhouses in my life, I grew up playing with beautiful models that my Nana had collected over a period of many years, but this one..... this one is on a whole different level of UNIQUE.
First of all, I know it's NOT a kit. I have no idea who made this or when, but it's definitely a one of a kind piece. Most dollhouses are manufactured by companies and sold as kits that you assemble, build, and customize to make it your own. This one shows every sign of being ooak. All I know is that it was purchased from an antique store somewhere down south, ended up at an Estate sale, and then with the wonderful lady I purchased it from. It sat for at least 10 years in her garage. I'd say it's at least 30-40 years old.
When I first saw this house, it was listed at $1,234 and wayyy out of my budget. But somehow, my fingers started typing the seller a message asking for more info.... I thought that somehow I could make this happen. For days I thought about this house and waited for a response. The more I thought about it and stared at the pictures, the more I was determined to bring it home.
Soon I realized that I had no idea what I was doing on FB Marketplace and that $1,234 was lingo for "Make Offers". I was so relieved! I set up a GoFundMe and immediately you wonderful Instagram friends began donating to help me bring this home! We completely exceeded the goal, and I'm beyond grateful to each of you! Once I got the final price, I gifted the seller a Christmas tip and saved the rest for the repairs!
My dear Nana and Moth and I drove 7 hours to pick up the new home! We left early in the morning and drove all day and into the evening to avoid the snowstorm that was coming right before Christmas. I was so thankful for my Mom's SUV that she let us borrow because there is NO way the house would have fit into my car!
Nana is the BEST!
It was tricky business loading the house. It's super long and awkwardly tall, but with lots of bubble wrap and maneuvering, we made it work! We ended up having to flip it onto the flat backside to get it into the trunk because the chimney was too tall!
Nana and I had a nice dinner on our way home and stopped at an antique store for fun! Once home, my brothers helped me carry it inside. Joe, my youngest brother, immediately helped me fix some of the broken wiring. We have a lot of work to do on this beautiful house, but I can't wait to bring it to life and film with it!
